Steam Beer and California Common Recipes: Beer Styles
Nice article, Brad - Cal Commons are one of my favorite styles, and I have a very nice recipe Jamil Zainasheff came up with that I brew over and over again. Let me know if you'd be interested in the recipe, I'll throw a link up on my site.

I use the Coleman Extreme 5 day cooler. I'll lose 2-3 degrees if I leave it overnight. Can't beat it.

I agree with the newsweek article - brewing in the late 80's and start of 1990's was much harder than today. High quality techniques, yeasts and other ingredients were just starting to enter the market then, and it made a huge difference.

I had some criticisms concerning this article - not with Charlie P's interview, but with the lack of real news about brewers and their struggles in Washington. You can read my post at http://www.lootcorp.com/2008/05/20/newsweek-serves-up-beer-news-lite/

This is something I too have wondered about. With the craft market growing rapidly, all of the "big brewers" seem to be jumping in with their own specialty entries.
